Shakiso is a woreda, or district, in the Guji Zone of the Oromia region. The Shakiso Uraga Organic coffee comes from Uraga farms and is processed at the Burqito washing station in the kebele, or village, of that name of uraga . As an organic coffee, the Shakiso coffee was grown without the use of any herbicides, pesticides, or other agrochemicals. The washing station assigns each lot an ID code to maintain traceability. This lot was grown between 1870 and 2000 meters above sea level.
This coffee comes from the Aleta Wendo region, located at nearly 2000 masl in the fertile forests near to Lake Abaya in the upper Gidabo River basin. Coffee trees here grow under shade of native tree such as Cordia African and Passiflora Edulis, benefitting from the Ganale Dorya and Dawa rivers. The soil common to the area is red clay loam.
